I love teaching and I love yoga! From my very first class, yoga made me feel good. Actually, GREAT! But had I walked into a different class, at a different studio with a different teacher, would my experience had been the same? Maybe not!
I was lucky, my first class was not intimidating, it wasn't a big production and there was no complicated philosophy. It was about self discovery. Subsequently I did venture into some classes where I was completely uncomfortable and felt uneasy because everything was in sanskrit and I had no idea what I was doing, but since I had already experienced what yoga could do for me, I knew I wouldn't quit. So I kept looking for the style that resonated with me.
It truly is about self discovery! If you are feeling like you have to dress a certain way or look a certain way to fit in, then that is NOT self discovery! That is just trying to fit in and that is not what yoga is about. We are all different and unique in own very special way. It can certainly be difficult in our culture to feel safe, secure and confident given our media fed perceptions. But I can tell you for myself AND I am happy to say for many of my students, the confidence of self discovery is transforming! It has been life changing and it is a continual practice for me. I love discovering what has been hiding beneath all these years!
